About iLoveKDP

iLoveKDP is a workspace for independent authors and publishers who print books through Amazon KDP. It answers the questions that stand between a finished manuscript and an accepted upload: how wide the spine is, how big the cover must be, whether the margins are right, and whether the PDF will be rejected.

Why it exists

Most print rejections come from a short list of problems — fonts that are not embedded, text in the margins, a cover built for the wrong page count, artwork under the barcode. Each is easy to fix once you know about it, and expensive to discover after a proof copy arrives. The rules are scattered across help pages, forum threads and trial and error. iLoveKDP puts them in one place, as calculators that give the number and a checker that reads your file.

What you will find here

  • Free calculators for cover size, spine width and interior margins, which work without an account and without JavaScript.
  • 22 guides explaining KDP’s print and listing requirements, the reasons files are rejected, and how to fix each one.
  • A pre-flight checker that runs 11 checks on an interior or cover PDF entirely in your browser — the file is never uploaded.
  • Interior generators for journals, planners and logbooks, a cover template builder, and editors for the book description, keywords and categories.

How the content is kept accurate

Every figure — bleed, safety margin, paper thickness, page-count limits, the barcode area — is defined once in the app’s specification and read by the calculators, the checker and the guides alike. A guide cannot quote a number the checker disagrees with, because they are the same number. Worked examples in the guides are computed rather than typed, and automated tests hold them to the calculators.

The guides separate KDP’s requirements from advice, and say which is which. Where a property of a PDF cannot be reliably read from the file, the checker reports it as unknown instead of passing it. iLoveKDP is not affiliated with Amazon, and KDP can change its requirements; each guide shows when it was last reviewed and links to KDP’s own help pages for confirmation.

Privacy by design

Manuscripts and covers are read in your own browser. They are not sent to a server to be checked or converted. The privacy policy describes exactly what is and is not collected.
