Bleed and where it applies

Bleed adds 0.125" beyond the trim so ink runs off the cut edge, and applies to outer edges only.

What to do

  1. Use bleed only when artwork is meant to reach the page edge. Text-only interiors do not need it.
  2. Bleed never applies to the gutter edge; the inside of the page is bound, not cut.
  3. If you use bleed, artwork must actually extend into it. Stopping at the trim line leaves a white sliver after cutting.

Generate with bleed — the tool in this app that settles it.
